Seasonal Allergies

Spring Allergies
Mar 9, 2019 10:43:40am

Spring has sprung!  Everyone is looking forward to being outdoors.  Colorful cherry and dogwood trees are beginning to bloom. Sadly, however, 25-30% of the population could begin to have symptoms that will prevent them from enjoying the beautiful weather with their families.

Seasonal allergy symptoms, sometimes mistakenly called hay fever, affect many in the area.  Runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, watering and redness of eyes, markedly affect their quality of life during this season.  In addition, some experience headaches, coughing, chest congestion and shortness of breath, and therefore are unable to exercise.

Sleep patterns can be affected, leading to fatigue, inability to concentrate at school and/or work.  Treatment for the acute illness includes antihistamines, nasal steroid medications, and other additional medications.

Prevention and cure for this condition is available. Treatment with allergy injections can provide tolerance and improved quality of life so patients no longer need to rely on medications.
